Deeper Learning

Captured on video: deeper student learning

Les MacFarlane, a teacher with Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB), saw the benefits of integrating creativity-driving software into the four Cs teaching model when his classes started using WeVideo. This online, cloud-based video editing platform works in web browsers and on mobile devices—including best-in-class Lenovo Chromebooks.

Mr. MacFarlane created a video academy in which students could create their own videos explaining new ways teachers and students can use the apps they’re already using. OCSB selected WeVideo because it is such a familiar, easy-to-use, and robust platform.

Students used WeVideo templates, collaboration tools, and the built-in media library to build their videos. Within as little as five minutes, they were able to arrange, trim, and splice clips together across multiple layers and even add text, audio, and music to fully realize their project vision. Building the stories was as simple as dragging and dropping the elements into the timelines. They instantly published the videos and shared them with Mr. MacFarlane, their classmates, and others interested in seeing them.

The results were high-quality and highly creative videos that were fun to watch, showing each student’s personality and creativity while engaging the creator and their peers. Teachers in other classes are even using one sixth grader’s video in their lessons.

Simultaneously, the videos demonstrated to Mr. MacFarlane that the students had a deep understanding of their subject matter.

When you give students a voice and a choice in how to express themselves and show off their knowledge and critical thinking skills, good things can happen in a classroom. Mr. MacFarlane isn’t the only one who has seen that.

A solution that meets today’s teaching demands

Video is popular with learners, and now it’s a perfect match for the educational challenges of 2021 and beyond. By becoming creators on WeVideo, students engage with content conceptually, ensuring a deep and lasting understanding of essential concepts and standards.

Millions of students across grade levels and subjects use WeVideo in remote, in-person, and hybrid environments to create, collaborate, and express themselves with authenticity. Its interface enables teachers to give timely and personalized feedback to each student.

Because WeVideo is cloud-based, students can use any hardware—from Lenovo tablets to Chromebooks to PCs—to build their videos. Content created on WeVideo Video Editor App syncs with the secure WeVideo Cloud and can be edited with full creative control on WeVideo.com. Real-time collaborative editing capability means students can work together on a project from anywhere, at any time.

A robust video solution

WeVideo gives learners powerful editing tools, accessible even on a Chromebook. It is easy to activate and manage licenses through the Google Admin Console. What’s more, it is built to fit your existing infrastructure and support the needs of teachers and administrators by offering:

  • Command and control of your platform and user settings
  • Integration with existing systems
  • A safe place for students to search, create, and share videos

IT administrators will appreciate the simplified provisioning and management capabilities almost as much as the teachers and students will enjoy indulging their creative spirits while bringing their learning to a whole new, deeper, more personal level.

With tools like WeVideo, teachers can be confident in their pursuit of student creativity and educational continuity, and students can be more engaged in learning and let their personalities, and in-depth subject knowledge, shine.
