The law practice is a thriving firm with office locations in Atlanta, Georgia, and several other large cities in multiple states in the region. Since its founding in 1970 with 5 attorneys, the firm has grown to become a leader in civil litigation and dispute resolution in the southeast.
In an effort to increase flexibility and reduce costs, the firm decided to host critical apps and data with a large hosting and managed service provider. Over time, however, it became clear that the off-the-shelf solutions offered by the hosting service had critical shortcomings including slow response, lack of control over infrastructure, lack of full failover capabilities, a low level of service and support, and high costs. In short, the firm was realizing none of the desired benefits of having their infrastructure, apps, and data professionally managed and hosted in the cloud.
Today, the firm benefits from having highly advanced and meticulously maintained storage, compute, security, and VDI systems all monitored and managed by high-level engineers at a predictable monthly cost. Data is securely backed up and replicated seamlessly without missed backup windows or services interruption.
Lockstep’s high performance cloud offerings have transformed the way our attorneys and staff work. I know our critical systems and data are secure and our users have the flexibility to work from any device and location. Together with the excellent service we receive from Lockstep’s engineers, we have the perfect solution to enable our practice to grow and thrive.
– IT DIRECTOR AT THE LAW FIRM
The firm’s customized hosted and managed services can be expanded as the law firm grows, allowing flexibility without a need for forklift upgrades. The resulting predictable monthly operating expense gives the firm the ability to accurately forecast IT expenses and plan for future projects.
The leadership at the law firm turned to Lockstep for a custom-designed managed service offering that allowed them the flexibility and performance they desired. Lockstep engineers carefully tailored a solution that satisfies the firm’s need for disaster recovery, desktop delivery, and hosted infrastructure while giving them on-call access and ongoing support from highly experienced and competent IT professionals. Lockstep provides a higher degree of flexibility and control at a better value than a big-box hosting service can provide.
To enable full failover in the event of a disaster, Lockstep migrated the firm’s data and services over to a private cloud infrastructure that includes two secure and geographically-dispersed data centers. The firm now has a recovery time and point objective (RTPO) of 24 hours and the confidence that their data is backed up and accessible. Lockstep’s high performance DR system backs up and replicates 22 TB nightly within a 7 hour backup window.
Lockstep also provided performance and security upgrades to the firm, moving their virtualization infrastructure to Lockstep’s high-performance cloud. The law firm is also more secure with an application-aware next generation firewall. All Lockstep infrastructure services are meticulously patched, maintained, and monitored, delivering resilient high-performance storage, compute, and security.
To meet performance and security requirements, Lockstep maintains and delivers 200 cloud-hosted virtual desktops to the firm. Lockstep’s advanced end-user experience management delivers fast personalized desktops while end-user virtualization with two factor authentication allows attorneys secure access to their desktops on a wide range of devices even while working remotely.
Even with almost all apps and infrastructure hosted in Lockstep’s cloud, the firm’s dedicated IT staff still needs final-mile IT services and support. Lockstep engineers perform critical tasks such as system patching, virtual desktop image upkeep, break/fix, and strategic consulting.
